Comedy Central Set to Inflame Egos With New Roast Battle South Africa

Roast Master, John Vlismas in Scorching Second Season

Johannesburg – 4 June, 2018 – Comedy Central (DStv channel 122) is again handing over the gauntlet to South African stand-up comedians – challenging them to the ultimate comedic battle in a brand-new season of local comedy series, Comedy Central Roast Battle South Africa.

Premiering on Comedy Central (DStv channel 122) on Thursday, 12 July 2018 at 21:00 CAT, the Comedy Central Roast Battle South Africa is a seven-part TV series in which South Africa’s top comedians will go head-to-head in a series of quick-fire comedic combats – their only weapons: punchy one-liners, side splitting insults and hurling jokes.  Their quest?  To out-joke, out-do and land the most memorable comedic feats of the night against their comedy comrades.

The second season will see John Vlismas picking up the mic as Roast Master and well known stand-up comedians as the contestants, along with heavyweight comedians Tumi Morake and  Kagiso Lediga on the judging panel.  In each round of Roast Battle South Africa,  top comedians verbally joust each other, armed with an arsenal of 5 jokes each to take a jab at the opponents.  The Roast Battle South Africa host, guest judges and studio audience then decide who will victoriously proceed to the semi-final and, thereafter, finals.

Some of the best comedians in the country taking to the stage to grab the Roast Battle South Africa crown include:  Mojak Lehoko, Casper De Vries, Lihle Msimang, Chris Forrest,  Nina Hastie, Jason Goliath, Lazola Gola, Robby Collins, Dave Levinsohn and many more.

Commented Dillon Khan, Vice President for Comedy Central and Creative Services at Viacom International Media Networks Africa, “We are thrilled to welcome back Comedy Central Roast Battle South Africa in its second season with a jaw dropping line-up of some of the most talented comedians in the country. Audiences can ready themselves for funny, original  and uproarious comedic relief. Leave your inhibitions at the door.”

Comic maven John Vlismas added: “I can’t wait for season two. I see this as a perfect opportunity to use all the blood-curdling insults we never got a chance to use in season one. I’ve been in the basement for weeks – preparing wax dolls of each of the contestants and praying to the Higgs Boson particle to give the words spontaneous mass so they really feel like a body fluid when they hit the target’s face.”

Season 2 of the Comedy Central Roast Battle South Africa will be recorded in front of a live audience at The Venue, Melrose Arch over a four-night period from 7 to 10 June 2018.  To attend the filming, tickets are available now from, tickets cost ZAR150.  Doors open at 19:00 CAT.  No under 18s are permitted.
